Dani Holgado and David Alonso will start the Japanese Grand Prix race from the front row of the grid
CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar has completed its best Saturday of the season. Dani Holgado and David Alonso fought for pole position in Moto2, and both riders will start the Japanese Grand Prix race in second and third place respectively. Holgado will start from the front row for the fourth time in 2025, the third consecutive time, while for Alonso it is the first time he has finished a Moto2 qualifying session among the top three. It is also the first time that both will start the race together from the front row, something that has not happened in the Aspar Team since 2022. The leader of the category, Manu González, was the only one capable of lapping in 1:47 and will start from pole position after breaking the circuit record.
The Japanese Grand Prix is proving to be very positive for the CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar rookies. Dani Holgado and David Alonso completed this morning's free practice focused on developing a good strategy and, above all, finding a comfortable pace for a race that promises to be tough for all riders. David Alonso took particular advantage of this session to approach Q1 with the best guarantees. The Colombian came out on top in this session as the fastest rider and reached Q2 with great determination. The Moto3 world champion put in a great lap in the early minutes, which earned him the lead in the standings for part of the timed session. Alonso was unable to beat his time in the final minutes due to tyre wear, but his 1:48.129 was enough to secure third place, just two tenths of a second off pole position. His teammate Dani Holgado continues to be one of the most consistent riders in the intermediate category. After finishing among the fastest this morning, the CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar rider competed in Q2 in search of the top positions on the grid. Holgado gave it his all until the end and beat his teammate by 72 thousandths to take second place. With these results, the entire CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar team will occupy the front row of the grid for the first time this season, something that has not happened since the Aragon Grand Prix in 2022, when Albert Arenas and Jake Dixon were second and third respectively.
2nd Dani Holgado 1:48.057 (+0.132): “I'm happy with today's qualifying. It was a great session; I was fast from the first lap and that's very positive because it gives me a good feeling for the race. Yesterday I worked very well with the team and that was reflected in the result because I was a second faster than yesterday. I always look for where I can improve, so I'm very happy. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's race. It will be tough because there are other riders who are also quite fast and have good pace, but we will try to get a good result. The goal is to bring home more points and, above all, to learn a lot.”
3rd David Alonso 1:48.129 (+0.204): “We knew that Q1 was going to be difficult because there were a lot of fast riders, but I managed to do a very good first lap. After that, I rode alone and slowed down a bit to gain more confidence for Q2. In the second timed session, I only had one tyre, so I went for it. I also tried to work on my race pace and I was able to improve in the third sector, which is where I was struggling the most. I'm tired after doing Q1 and Q2, which are sessions where you do few laps, but they are very intense. The race will be tough, we may suffer a little in terms of pace, but we can learn a lot from the fastest riders on the grid. I'll try to stay focused at the start and see what lines the others are taking to gather information.”
