CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team riders secure Q2 once again

Dani Holgado and David Alonso have secured direct entry into Q2 in Aragon after finishing in ninth and thirteenth position

The Aragon Grand Prix kicked off on Friday with the first practice sessions. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team riders had a positive day, with both riders securing direct entry into tomorrow's Q2 after Dani Holgado finished ninth and David Alonso thirteenth. The riders in the intermediate category completed a very close practice session, with Manu González being the fastest. Diogo Moreira was second, two tenths behind the leader, while Deniz Öncü was third.

The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team riders faced their first free practice session this morning focusing on fine-tuning their set-up and adapting to the track with the Moto2 bike. Both David Alonso and Dani Holgado were very consistent and finished third and eighth respectively. The latter also had to undergo a medical check on Thursday after undergoing arm pump surgery in his right arm following the British Grand Prix. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider was declared fit to compete at the MotorLand Aragon circuit and was consistently among the best today. In the afternoon session, the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team riders continued to work hard to secure a place among the fastest in the intermediate category. Holgado improved his morning time by eight tenths of a second, and his 1:51.049 put him in ninth position. His teammate David Alonso did not have the practice session he had hoped for. The Colombian rider also improved his times and set his best lap in the early stages, but the Moto3 world champion suffered two crashes that prevented him from completing the session normally. Even so, Alonso finished in thirteenth position with a time of 1:51.279 to avoid going through Q1 and will face tomorrow's session with good feelings.

9th Dani Holgado 1:51.049 (+0.501): “It was a very positive day for me, not just because of the result, but because of the feelings. I'm super happy because yesterday I didn't know if I was going to be able to ride at 100 percent in terms of sensations. I felt strong and comfortable in the morning session. I was able to ride well, although I had some discomfort when changing direction because you have to push harder, but I wasn't in any pain. We achieved the first objective of the weekend: to get into Q2 directly. The most positive thing is that I was competitive alone again and had a good pace, which I haven't had for a while. Tomorrow we'll continue working along these lines; our goal is to be as far forward as possible, preferably on the front or second row.”

12+1 David Alonso 1:51.279 (+0.731): "I made a mistake. After that first crash when I was pushing the limits, the second crash was unnecessary. I wasn't as focused as I should have been and that desire to get back on track, combined with the fact that there isn't as much margin with the Moto2, has helped us now learn more. Even if I crash, I like to keep going and find the limits, but today I wasn't at my best, I had a slight lapse and couldn't control the bike. This circuit is fun on the Moto2. I've put in quality laps and I'm more comfortable on the bike. Little by little we're improving and feeling more comfortable with the bike. Tomorrow we'll use the free practice session to plan our strategy and get into a good race pace. In qualifying we'll try to complete a clean lap and not do more than we should. Sometimes less is more, so I'll try to stick with that philosophy."
