David Alonso and Dani Holgado have secured direct entry into Q2 after setting the ninth and tenth fastest times respectively
The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rookies have started the German Grand Prix on a high note. David Alonso and Dani Holgado finished ninth and tenth respectively on Friday, separated by just one thousandth. Both riders have secured direct entry into tomorrow's Q2 to compete for the front positions on the grid and thus tackle the German Grand Prix race in the best possible way. As for the rest of the Moto2 riders, Celestino Vietti was the rider to beat, setting the best time of the day. Senna Agius was second, one tenth behind, and Manu González completed the top three, two tenths behind the reference time.
The riders in the intermediate category kicked off the eleventh round of the season with an eye on the weather forecast. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team riders took part in the first free practice session of the weekend, looking for a good set-up on a circuit as unique as the Sachsenring: very short and technical. David Alonso was very competitive this morning, finishing in seventh position, while his teammate was sixteenth. In the afternoon, the Moto2 riders faced a very tight practice session to achieve a time that would allow them to avoid the dreaded Q1. David Alonso continued with the good work established in the morning and quickly moved to the top of a classification that was very tight until the end. The Colombian, who improved on his times from the first session, finished in ninth position and his 1:22.844 left him just half a second off the benchmark. Dani Holgado took a step forward in the afternoon practice session and, after lapping a second faster than in the morning, climbed up the standings to finish in tenth place, just one thousandth behind his teammate. As a result, the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team duo secured direct entry into Q2 for Saturday and will fight for the front rows of the grid.
9th David Alonso 1:22.844 (+0.515): “I'm very happy. The injured finger has improved a lot, and I'm now working normally and riding comfortably. Before coming here, I did some dirt track in Spain, and now I feel like I'm back there while riding here. Among the aspects we need to improve are my performance with the new tyre and, if it rains tomorrow, my riding in wet conditions.”
10th Dani Holgado 1:22.845 (+0.516): “It was very difficult to make a difference: we're all very close together because it's a very small circuit. I wasn't feeling very well in the afternoon, but on the second run, after changing some details on the bike, we were able to make a lot of progress and improve almost a second. I'm happy; I maintained a steady pace of 1:23, which I think will be a good benchmark for the race.”
