Izan Guevara wants to continue his progress at Phillip Island, a track where he achieved his best result in Moto2 last year by finishing sixth
The Moto2 World Championship is entering its final stretch and it does so with a solid leader: Ai Ogura. Since he took the lead at the San Marino GP, the Japanese has increased his advantage in each race. Now, he faces the Australian GP with the first chance to become Moto2 World Champion. Ogura has 60 points over the second, his teammate Sergio García. After the race at Phillip Island there will be 75 points at stake, so the Japanese needs to score 16 points more than García to secure the title. It is not an easy result, but it has happened in three of the last four races. García is not the only rider that Ogura will have to take into account in order to be crowned champion. While the Japanese rider has a comfortable advantage, behind him everything is much tighter, as up to seven other riders could delay his title if they prevent him from ending with an advantage of 76 points.
CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider Izan Guevara arrives in Australia in very good form. Guevara has shown great progress in the last two GPs, which has led him to finish in the top 10 in the last two races, two weekends in which he has been competitive from the start and has reached his objective of achieving a good grid position. Now, the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider wants to continue with the good feelings and keep fighting in each race to finish in the points. This weekend he has a new opportunity to achieve a great result at Phillip Island, a track where he has completed great races in the past and where he has really great memories. There he was crowned Moto3 World Champion in 2022 after winning the race and a year later he achieved his best result to date in the intermediate class by finishing sixth. His teammate Jake Dixon travels to Australia with the motivation of returning to the podium. The last few races have not been easy for the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider, who has only been able to score three points in the last three weekends. At Phillip Island he will seek to put this bad streak behind him and return to the fight for the front positions where he had been since the Catalan GP. Dixon already knows what it is like to get on the podium at the Australian track with the team: he achieved it in 2022 by finishing third, a result that he will try to repeat this weekend to score his sixth podium of the year.
Jake Dixon: “We have had several races in which the final result does not reflect all the work we have done. In Japan, for example, we started from pole, but the rain spoilt our plans. We are travelling to Australia with the intention of leaving there on Sunday happy with how the weekend has gone and thus being able to start the last triple-header of the season on the right foot.”
Izan Guevara: “We arrive in Australia after two good races in Indonesia and Japan. We have been close to the podium, but we have not achieved it due to different circumstances. I am happy with the work we are doing, we are making big steps forward. Australia brings back very good memories, we won the Moto3 World Championship title in 2022 and last year we had a good race in really difficult conditions. I think we can do it very well this year. I am very confident, the track suits my riding style very well. We will give our all and fight for our goal, which is the podium.”
