Both Jake Dixon and Izan Guevara have finished the first day in Mandalika in provisional Q2 positions
At the start of the Indonesian GP, Moto2 has once again demonstrated how tight the category is, as only one second has separated the top nineteen at the first day in Mandalika. From Ai Ogura, who has finished first, to Jaume Masià, who has ended nineteenth, there have been only 999 thousandths of difference. The Japanese rider has been the fastest on the first day of practice in Mandalika, achieving a time of 1:33.690, a register with which he has set a new track record after beating by 157 thousandths the previous, held by Aron Canet from 2023. It has been Canet who has finished second, just 57 thousandths off, while Tony Arbolino has completed the top 3 after finishing one tenth off the best time. Ogura has been very strong in the second practice, unlike his main rival and second-placed rider in the World Championship, Sergio García, who has only been able to finish twenty-first, more than a second off the Japanese best time.
The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team has started the Indonesian GP on the right foot, with both riders in provisional Q2 positions. Jake Dixon has been competitive from the start in Mandalika and has always remained in the top ten. In the morning session he has finished in ninth position and, in the afternoon, he has been able to climb up to sixth place. The British has ended just three tenths off the best time, but he wants more and tomorrow he hopes to be able to make a step forward that would allow him to fight for the top positions. His teammate Izan Guevara has concluded the first day in Mandalika in twelfth position. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider has made great progress from one session to the other: this morning he has finished 1.2 seconds off the best time, while in the afternoon he has managed to reduce the gap to six tenths. The Spanish, who has completed one of his best Fridays of the year, has ended happy with the work done, but knows that there is still room for improvement, especially in the second sector.
6th Jake Dixon 1:34.049 (+0.359): “It has been a productive first day, but I think we need to find something to really compete to fight for the win this weekend. We will sit down tonight to try to find something more that would help us.”
12th Izan Guevara 1:34.343 (+0.653): “I am happy with the first day. I always enjoy Indonesia, although it is a very demanding track and the conditions are too. We are on the right way. We worked hard in Misano to get here with a good base and the bike is going well. We still have to improve in some corners, especially in the second sector. The times are very close, but we are in provisional Q2 positions. Tomorrow we will try to take another step.”
