Dani Holgado, the revelation of the Moto2 season opening, heads into his first home race from fourth place in the standings
The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team is competing this weekend in Jerez, in the first round of the World Championship on European soil, aiming to continue surprising in Moto2 with its two rookie riders. Dani Holgado was consistently among the top five at the Qatar Grand Prix and, after finishing fourth and scoring thirteen more points, moved up to fourth place overall. The Spanish is one of just four riders to have scored points in every race contested to date and the only one, along with leader Aron Canet, to have always finished in the top ten. With this background, Holgado's goal this weekend will once again be to repeat among the best, to continue consolidating his learning process and gaining experience in a category where he already leads the next rookie in the standings by 26 points.
The Spanish Grand Prix will also be a special GP for the Moto2 team for another reason: both Dani Holgado and his teammate David Alonso celebrate their birthdays this weekend. The Spaniard's birthday will be on Sunday, on race day, while the Colombian's will be on Friday, when he will turn 19. Alonso continues to grow with the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team in this new Moto2 phase, and in Qatar, he showed great pace from the second third of the race, setting times like those at the front. Now he arrives at Jerez, the only circuit where he crashed in a race in 2024, although he was able to recover and cross the finish line in eleventh. He has already completed several days of preseason testing there, so he has information available to try and close the gap on the fastest riders from the first free practice session.
Dani Holgado: “We face the first race weekend in Spain as a Moto2 rider. I'm very motivated after the incredible results in Qatar. I am very happy with how everything is going and how the whole team is working. These results also come from the effort we are making every day to look for those little details to improve. Jerez is a circuit I already know with the Moto2. We don't need to put pressure on ourselves, we just need to go out and enjoy ourselves as we are doing. All the good things will come.”
David Alonso: “In Jerez we already have references after the pre-season tests. It can help us to keep improving and this weekend we will continue with the same line of work: learn from the top riders, copy the lines and get a bit more pace for the race.”
