Inde GASGAS Aspar rider scores ten points in a race where he was fourteenth on the opening lap
Aron Canet y Pedro Acosta, two of the fastest riders during the weekend in Portugal, has competed for the win in the first Grand Prix of the season for the Moto2 riders. In the end, Acosta has taken victory, his fourth in the intermediate category, after setting a stunning pace that only Canet could keep up with. With two laps to go, Acosta has managed to get away and has crossed the finish line with a gap of more than a second over his pursuer. Tony Arbolino, who has started the race in eighth position, has completed the podium in a race in which Filip Salac and Manu Gonzalez have been fourth and fifth, respectively.
Inde GASGAS Aspar Team has made a brilliant comeback in the Moto2 race thanks to Jake Dixon, who has moved up from fourteenth position on the first lap to sixth in the end of the race. The British rider, like in the practice sessions, has felt comfortable on the Portuguese track and has scored his first ten points of the season after a race in which he has improved lap by lap and in which he has finished five seconds off the podium. On the other hand, Jordi Torres has completed the 21 laps at a good pace. The Spanish rider has returned to the intermediate category after nine years and will continue his adaptation to Moto2 at the Argentina GP, where the team will not count with Izan Guevara, who is recovering from his arm pump operation on his right forearm.
6th Jake Dixon (+9.146): “It was a good but difficult race. Step by step I managed to make up some ground, because I wasn't comfortable at the start when I was fourteenth. I could make it up to sixth position after a lot of overtaking. I didn't expect it, but all the hard work during the pre-season paid off. I was able to think calmly and I have to thank Sarah, my wife, because she helped me a lot with it. This sixth position is the best we could do, we maximised everything we had and we leave Portimao happy.”
23th Jordi Torres (1:02.643): "We finished the first race after nine years without racing in Moto2. We ended the race happy after all the work we did over the weekend on the bike set-up. For the race we had the best bike of the weekend and it is our most important personal achievement these days. I want to thank the team, they worked very hard and we have synchronised very well. In the first corners I was careful because there were a lot of riders. I waited, tried to learn from them and understand how the bike worked. Once everything was clear, I took more risks and continued collecting information. Mission accomplished. I would have liked to have taken more risks, but I have a preseason to complete in MotoE, which is my most important goal this year.”
