The CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar rider has made a big step forward and achieved his best qualifying result
David Alonso continues to improve in his first year in Moto2. The CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar rider made a big step forward and qualified in Q2 for the first time this season after going through Q1. The good feeling he has had throughout the day has allowed him to fight for a good position on the starting grid and tomorrow he will start the race at COTA from sixth position. His 2:07.883 was four tenths of a second off pole position, which this time went to Jake Dixon, followed by Manu González and Barry Baltus. This result will allow David Alonso to face one of the most demanding races of the season with more motivation and confidence.
Dani Holgado did not have the same feeling on the second day of the Grand Prix of the Americas. The Spanish rider faced very different track conditions, dry and with gusts of wind at some points of the day. Holgado was able to overcome and after the free practice in the morning he worked hard to make a good qualifying. The CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar rider was very consistent throughout qualifying to achieve his best starting position of the season and will start the race from thirteenth place.
6th David Alonso 2:07.883 (+0.451): “It has been a long day in which we have done things on the bike that have helped, but mentally there have also been changes. There was a moment when I didn't know if I was going to make it into Q2 or not, but I gave everything I had and I made it through. I'm very happy with this change and I'm trying to apply things that will make me improve. Tomorrow in the race I have to see how it goes, I have never been there in front and it will be a very hard and long race. Now I have to think about keeping up and understanding what I have done today.”
12+1 Dani Holgado 2:08.416 (+0.984): “Today we have done a great job from practice to qualifying. In the morning I didn't feel good with the bike, with the track, but also with myself because it was difficult to adapt to this circuit with the Moto2. Even so, I'm happy with the work done for the qualifying. We have to keep working, tomorrow we have to take another step forward. We have achieved the best grid position of these three races, I have a good feeling to fight for the top 10 and we will give everything.”
