The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team riders secured direct entry into Q2 after David Alonso and Dani Holgado finished sixth and eleventh respectively
With hardly any rest since the last Grand Prix, the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team got back on their bikes to kick off the Hungarian Grand Prix. David Alonso and Dani Holgado had to tackle an unfamiliar and highly technical circuit, but both got through Friday with their goal achieved and qualified for Q2 after finishing sixth and eleventh respectively. Both riders ended the day feeling positive and with a clearer idea of how to approach Saturday's qualifying session. At the top of the standings, Diogo Moreira was the fastest in the intermediate category after his victory in Austria, followed by Filip Salac and Manu González, both one tenth behind.
The Hungarian Grand Prix began with great excitement for the riders in the intermediate category. The vast majority of them had not ridden at Balaton Park before, so this morning's free practice was essential to get to know the track and work on the set-up of their bikes. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team riders, aware of the importance of adapting as quickly as possible, tried to establish a good working line to tackle the afternoon practice with the best guarantees and finished in sixth and fifteenth position. In the afternoon, David Alonso climbed to the top of the standings and quickly took the Q2 positions. The Colombian rider felt good throughout a key session to qualify for the top positions tomorrow, and after improving on his morning time, his 1:41.501 put him in sixth place. His teammate Dani Holgado had some difficulty adapting to Balaton Park, but the Spaniard did not give up and was able to lap a second faster in the afternoon session. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider gave it one last push in the final minutes to set his best time on the penultimate lap, a 1:41.638 that put him in eleventh place, also securing a spot in tomorrow's Q2.
6º David Alonso 1:41.501 (+0.288): “We've arrived at a new circuit that's very technical, but very similar to a go-kart track. It's very slow, and you have to really understand where the right line is. Today was a positive day: we made it directly into Q2. Tomorrow we'll try something else to see if we can continue to improve.”
11º Dani Holgado 1:41.638 (+0.425): “We finished the first day with a good job and a positive feeling. In the morning, I wasn't feeling entirely well on the bike, but despite that, I finished fifteenth. In the afternoon, I improved my time by a second, but we still have a lot of work to do to continue improving our feeling. We're not far away, but everyone is very close, and a few tenths could mean starting or not from the front positions.”
