Alonso hungry for more success in Barcelona

The CFMOTO Impulse Aspar Team wants to keep dreaming at home, at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, where David Alonso has racked up three consecutive victories

The CFMOTO Impulse Aspar Team is ready for the fifteenth round of the season. David Alonso and Dani Holgado are at their best in their first year in Moto2, after the Colombian's first victory in Hungary and the Spaniard's first podium in Austria. Both riders have been performing well in recent rounds and this weekend they will take advantage of the momentum of the local fans to continue giving their all and complete another positive Catalan Grand Prix. Alonso has only ever won on his visits to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya: he did so in his debut season in Moto3 in 2023 and repeated the feat last year, when he achieved in Barcelona two of those fourteen victories that enabled him to be crowned Moto3 world champion. Holgado was second in the last visit to the Circuit last November, and after the test day held at the Catalan circuit a few months ago, he has been able to take a step forward together with his technical team to fight for bigger goals. Both riders are highly motivated going into this fifteenth round of the season, especially Alonso after his thrilling victory at Balaton Park. The CFMOTO Impulse Aspar Team riders lead the rookie standings: Holgado is eleventh with 87 points, while Alonso is fourteenth with 68 points.

Alonso's victory in the Hungarian Grand Prix prevented leader Manu González and one of his main rivals for the title, Brazilian Diogo Moreira, from adding another win this season. Despite this, González was able to continue extending his lead over Aron Canet to 25 points thanks to his third place finish in Hungary. Diogo Moreira returned to the podium in the last race, just ahead of González, and remains in third place, 31 points off González and only six behind Canet. Barry Baltus and Jake Dixon, fourth and fifth respectively, continue to round out the top five in the category ahead of the final stretch of the season.

Dani Holgado: “I'm really looking forward to getting to Barcelona. It's one of the few circuits where I've ridden with the Moto2 bike before the Grand Prix because we did a test there a few months ago. The goal is to start laying the groundwork on Friday and take it step by step to have a good race and get back to the front.”

David Alonso: “We're coming to a Grand Prix in Spain, a weekend where there's usually a lot of activity off the track, so it'll be important to have all five senses focused on the bike every time we get on it. In Barcelona, we'll have to let the bike run more and turn more on the throttle. It's a track that changes a lot from Moto3 to Moto2, so one of the tasks for these days is to continue polishing our style and improving those areas where we have more margin, such as with the new tyre on a single lap, especially in qualifying, to be better prepared for the race."
