The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team riders finished seventh and eighth respectively on the first day of the Grand Prix of Spain
The Spanish Grand Prix got off to a very positive start for the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team riders. David Alonso and Dani Holgado have continued with the good feelings of the previous Grand Prix and this Friday both riders have achieved the direct pass to Q2, after being seventh and eighth despite the high temperatures on track. David Alonso focused this first day on testing different tyres for the race. The reigning Moto3 World Champion, who finished fifth in free practice, continues to improve on his debut in the intermediate category. In the afternoon, he was among the fastest from start to finish and his 1:40.786 was good enough to take a strong seventh position and secure a direct pass to Q2 for the second consecutive weekend.
Dani Holgado continues with his usual upward trend. The Spanish CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider worked with the team to choose the best strategy for the weekend. The rising temperatures in the afternoon session prevented him from improving his morning lap times by just a few tenths of a second. Despite this, Holgado remained in the top 10 with his teammate and took eighth position, also getting a direct pass to Q2 to fight for the front positions on the starting grid.
7th David Alonso 1:40.786 (0.644): “The goal is that every time we take a step forward, we consolidate and confirm it. Once we've achieved that, we go for the next step. I've felt good from the start, and I'm really enjoying it. We've done a lot of laps in Jerez, and on a fast lap tomorrow there will be many riders contending for those leading positions.”
8th Dani Holgado 1:40.812 (+0.670): “It's been a positive day, I'm happy. We knew it could be difficult; people are going very fast from the start, and that is taking me a bit more of time, but I've managed to stay calm. The first practice of the day was a little more discreet, but that's because I ran the entire session on the same tyre. I completed a total of 20 laps, and then in the afternoon I tried the other compound. We have to see how each one performs, thinking about the race. We finished eighth today, but to improve on that result, we need to keep doing laps and gathering data. It's going to be a special weekend; Sunday is my birthday, and if I could make one wish, it would be to be on the podium.”
