FRENCH GP

Alonso among the best at Le Mans

The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team riders will start from the fourth and seventh rows in the French Grand Prix race

The second day of the French Grand Prix was completed with a marked big improvement in the weather conditions. The increase in temperatures allowed a packed Le Mans circuit to enjoy a day of qualifying in which Manu González took pole position in Moto2. Barry Baltus and Diogo Moreira will join him on the front row for Sunday's race. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team riders had to go through Q1 and only David Alonso managed to get a place in the final Q2. The reigning Moto3 World Champion is working hard with the team to adapt to the circuit and tomorrow he will start from twelfth position, on the fourth row. Dani Holgado did not make it to Q2 and tomorrow he will have to come back from twenty-first place.

The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team riders took advantage of this morning's free practice to work on a race simulation and choose the best configuration for Sunday. David Alonso and Dani Holgado had a good feeling and improved their pace, after a start to the Grand Prix in which it was difficult to find a good feeling due to the changing conditions. In the afternoon, Alonso and Holgado were forced to go through Q1 and both riders fought for one of the four places that guarantee the passage to the front positions. Only Alonso was able to meet the first objective of the afternoon and, in Q2, he tried to close the gap with the fastest riders of the intermediate category. The Colombian driver achieved a time of 1:34.396, which puts him in twelfth position. Dani Holgado, on the other hand, was not able to do a perfect lap and his 1:35.374 relegated him to twenty-first position. Tomorrow he will have to come back in the French Grand Prix race.

12th David Alonso 1:34.936: “We completed a good Q1 and I was able to move on to Q2. I only had one set of tyres and maybe with one more I could have got a few tenths more, but I'm happy with the result because it's been a tricky weekend. This circuit is like a karting track, where you have to balance the braking very well, but especially in the acceleration, which is where the first ones make the biggest difference. Today we focused on that and we took another step forward. We have to continue to understand everything, but we have a good base for the race. We'll have to see what the forecasts say for tomorrow: if it rains, we'll try to do a bit better than in the United States.”

21st Dani Holgado 1:35.374: “We finished the second day at Le Mans, although we lacked a bit more definition, especially in the time attack. I didn't finish the lap well and I'm a bit angry, because we had the potential to get into Q2 and go further ahead. We have to work on that for the next races. As for the pace, I'm quite happy because in the morning we did a race simulation in which I felt good. Let's keep that and the good feeling to have a good race tomorrow.”
