Zannoni leaves Balaton Park with two top 10 finishes

The Power Electronics Aspar Team rider finished this weekend's two races in eighth and tenth position

The Power Electronics Aspar Team faced a challenging weekend in Hungary. Kevin Zannoni achieved the best results for the team, finishing eighth and tenth in the two races held today at Balaton Park. The Italian, who had previously struggled to adapt to the changes introduced this season, improved as the weekend progressed and was able to climb up the field to fight for a top 10 finish. The first race of the Hungarian Grand Prix was reduced to just four laps after a crash, leaving the riders with little time to climb up the standings. On this occasion, Zannoni crossed the finish line in eighth place, while his teammate Jordi Torres crashed in the first corner and was unable to rejoin the race when it resumed. In the afternoon, the Power Electronics Aspar Team duo had another opportunity to try to close the gap in the overall standings, although their starting position (in the third and fourth rows) affected the outcome of the race. Zannoni and Torres regained their confidence and finished in tenth and eleventh place respectively. Despite not being able to catch up with the leading group, both riders were able to draw very positive conclusions to prepare for the next round in Barcelona.

The star of the weekend was Mattia Casadei. The Italian was a double winner in Hungary and was also the only rider to finish on the podium in both races. Lorenzo Baldassarri and Eric Granado joined him on the podium in the first race, while Nicholas Spinelli and Matteo Ferrari did so in the second. With these results, Casadei becomes the new leader in the MotoE standings, overtaking Andrea Mantovani. The latter had been in first place until this weekend, when he fell to third place after being overtaken by Casadei and Lorenzo Baldassarri.

8th/10th Kevin Zannoni: “It’s been a bit of a difficult weekend. The most positive thing is that I’m improving my feeling with this year’s front tyre. I was struggling to find the limit with this bike, but we’re getting there. I was able to make up some positions after yesterday's qualifying didn't go as we wanted. It's harder to overtake, but I'm happy with the work we've done with the team. Now it's time to focus on Barcelona to keep improving in the next races.”

DNF/11th Jordi Torres: “It was a difficult day. This morning we started the first race eager to do well, but on the first lap the front tyre was cold and the front locked up in a very fast corner. There was nothing I could do to avoid the crash. In the second race, I had less confidence and had to regain my feel for the bike in just a few laps. I preferred to start slowly and finish without making any more mistakes. I was able to find my pace again ahead of Barcelona, which will be the next round of the championship. We'll be racing at home, so that will be extra motivation.”
