Zannoni defends the MotoE lead at home

The Openbank Aspar Team rider has only a one-point advantage over the second after achieving his first victory in the electric category

The Openbank Aspar Team and Kevin Zannoni come on the lead to the fourth MotoE round of the year, the Italian Grand Prix. The electric category is tighter than ever and only two points separate the top three nriders. Zannoni had a blast at the Catalan Grand Prix after achieving a third place and a victory that took him to first position in the World Championship. Mattia Casadei, who until then was the leader, is second, just one point behind the Openbank Aspar Team rider, and Óscar Gutiérrez is third, two points off the leader. Now, Zannoni arrives at his home race with the clear objective of defending the lead and extending his advantage at the front, both in the riders' and teams' standings. His good results in the last races and his great consistency make him one of the favourites for the podium in Mugello.

His teammate Jordi Torres faces the Italian Grand Prix with great motivation. Torres wants to fight for the podium again and although he is aware that Mugello is not a circuit that adapts well to his strengths, the Spanish is confident of achieving a good result. The Openbank Aspar Team rider continues working to take a step forward that will allow him to regularly fight for the front positions and regain a good feeling on the bike. At the Italian Grand Prix, which marks the halfway point of the championship, MotoE riders will have two new opportunities to score points before a three-week break until the Dutch TT.

Kevin Zannoni: “After an incredible weekend in Barcelona, I am really motivated before the Italian Grand Prix, my home race. Winning was a dream for me and being the leader of the World Championship is something I have worked hard for. Getting to my home race like this is fantastic, it gives me extra motivation. I am very comfortable with the bike and the team. I am sure we will have a great weekend.”

Jordi Torres: “Mugello is a circuit in which the engine and speed are important factors and those have been our weak points in the last races. However, we do not give up, we will work to do it the best we can. We will fight to be in the group.”
