Zannoni comes close to the podium in Barcelona

The Power Electronics Aspar rider is regaining the good form he showed at the start of the year and finished fourth

The Power Electronics Aspar Team came close to the podium in Barcelona with Kevin Zannoni, who finished fourth in the second race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Zannoni achieved his best position in the championship since finishing second in France, after finishing both races less than three seconds behind the winner. The Italian rider was sixth in the morning, after completing a great start that took him to second position, and fourth in the afternoon, only behind Eric Granado, Nicholas Spinelli and Mattia Casadei.

His teammate Jordi Torres was unlucky in a home Grand Prix that he had been eagerly awaiting and where he had secured a spot on the front row of the grid. However, from the start of the first race, a vibration in the front tyre prevented him from fighting with his strongest rivals. In the second race, after working with the team to try to solve the problem, Torres started with more confidence to fight for the front positions, but overconfidence after overtaking his teammate led to him to crash in the fifth corner of the Catalan track. With these results, both Kevin Zannoni and Jordi Torres maintain their positions in the top, 46 and 53 points off the leader Mattia Casadei, respectively. Likewise, the Power Electronics Aspar Team remains third in the team standings in the electric category ahead of the last two rounds of the season.

6th/4th Kevin Zannoni: “I'm leaving Barcelona much happier than in recent races. I'm getting back to feeling good on the bike, something we started to notice in Hungary, even though the starting position wasn't so good. I'm feeling better and better with the tyres and the modifications made this season. It's been a positive weekend, I finished sixth and fourth, I was close to the podium and we were able to gather information for the next race in Misano. It's my home Grand Prix, so I'm even more eager to do well.”

9th/DNF Jordi Torres: “It wasn't the Grand Prix finish we were hoping for. Yesterday we had a great Friday and secured a spot on the front row of the grid, but today, for one reason or another, we weren't able to finish it off. In the first race, I had a vibration in the tyre that prevented me from maintaining my position, and little by little I lost ground to the rest of my rivals. In the second race, I was overconfident and made a mistake, crashing while I was overtaking and recovering positions. We'll have to keep working at Misano to give the team a good result.”
