SAN MARINO GP

Zannoni and Power Electronics Aspar one second off victory

Kevin Zannoni finished both races in the top 10 and narrowly missed out on the podium at Misano, while Jordi Torres suffered a crash in the second race

The Power Electronics Aspar Team ended the penultimate round of the season on a positive note for both riders. Kevin Zannoni was one second off victory and finished both races on Saturday among the fastest. Thanks to his fifth and sixth place finishes, the Italian has taken another step forward and continues to improve after a difficult start to the year. His teammate Jordi Torres also leaves Misano with a good feeling about the work done with the team, despite crashing in the second race. The Spaniard, who was seventh in the first race, worked with the team before returning to compete in the second race to improve his feeling and try to move up the field, although unfortunately he was only able to complete one lap.

With these results, Kevin Zannoni and Jordi Torres remain in the top 10 of the standings, 53 and 72 points behind the new leader Alessandro Zaccone. The fight for the title has been reduced to seven riders after the victories of Zaccone and Matteo Ferrari, who were joined on the podium by Nicholas Spinelli and Andrea Mantovani in the first race, and by Eric Granado and Mattia Casadei in the second. Thus, the title in the electric category will be decided at the final round next November in Portugal.

6th/5th Kevin Zannoni: “I'm happy because I'm competitive again, although my first feeling at the end of the second race was bittersweet. When you see the podium so close, it's a bit frustrating, but I'm focusing on the positives and the great progress we've made since the start of the season. The championship is about to end, but I want to thank the whole team and I want to finish the last Grand Prix in the same way.”

7th/DNF Jordi Torres: “I was able to stay at the front throughout the weekend, I was able to fight and I felt better. In the first race I lacked a bit of grip in the last laps, especially coming out of the corners, but we managed to hold on and I was close to my rivals. In the second race we made some changes to the shock absorber to improve the riding. I felt very good and the bike was perfect, but on the first lap I crashed. The steering locked up in a very fast corner, I didn't even see it coming. We've learned a lesson, and above all I want to emphasise that I felt competitive from the start of the first weekend. After the work we've done over the last few days, I have high expectations for Portimao and we'll try to end the season as well as possible.”
