The Power Electronics Aspar rider will start the San Marino Grand Prix from sixth position. His teammate Kevin Zannoni will start from eighth
Power Electronics Aspar Team riders Jordi Torres and Kevin Zannoni each got their engines going in the penultimate round of the season with top-10 finishes in the first practice session of the day, with Torres in third place and Zannoni in fourth. In the afternoon, they had another opportunity to fine-tune their setup, while also working toward a spot in Q2. The Italian rider achieved his first objective of the day and avoided Q1 by setting the eighth-fastest time, while the Spaniard was just one-tenth off the cutoff.
This didn't hinder Torres, who was the fastest in the first qualifying session. Already in Q2, the Spaniard took advantage of his few attempts to achieve the sixth-fastest time and start from the second row of the grid. His teammate Zannoni showed great performance in the opening laps to put in a strong lap, but several competitors beat his times in the closing minutes, and his 1:40.690 placed him in eighth place on the grid for tomorrow's two races. Eric Granado will start from pole, with Alessandro Zaccone second and Andrea Mantovani third.
6th Jordi Torres 1:40.472 (+0.442): “Tomorrow we hope to have two good races and exploit our potential without losing the good feeling on the bike. During qualifying, I knew I had room for improvement. I worked with the team, and in Q1, we found the key to a great lap riding alone. In Q2, and with new tyres, I tried to ride like I did in Q1, and the bike was a little more aggressive, but I took a step back as I wanted to secure a good time.”
8th Kevin Zannoni 1:40.690 (+0.660): “It was a slightly complicated qualifying session. We're not far off, but we're always missing a few tenths, and that's important here. I'm not braking as well as I'd like, but we're working on it to try to fix it for tomorrow's two races and make up as many positions as possible.”
