Jordi Torres and Kevin Zannoni bid farewell to the MotoE season aiming to add to the team's four victories and 16 podium finishes in the category
The Power Electronics Aspar Team closes the electric era of the World Championship this weekend in Portimao. After seven seasons and a total of 78 races, including this weekend's, the team concludes a chapter in which it has shone with Jordi Torres and Kevin Zannoni, and previously with other riders such as Fermín Aldeguer, Nico Terol or María Herrera. Four pole positions (three for Torres and one for Aldeguer), four more victories (two for Torres and two for Zannoni), and a total of 16 podium finishes (10 for Torres and six for the Italian) mark the trajectory of a team that fought for the title in 2023 with Jordi Torres, who in the end became the runner-up, and in 2024 with Kevin Zannoni, who finished fourth.
This weekend, at Portimao, the Power Electronics Aspar Team riders have one last chance to shine and move closer to the top positions in the category. For Zannoni, currently eighth, second place is still mathematically achievable, although the six riders ahead would need to have a disastrous weekend in Portugal. The Italian wants to finish the year in the best possible way and has used the break since the San Marino Grand Prix to compete in the Italian national championship to maintain his form. His teammate Jordi Torres will also be closing out a career spanning over a hundred races with the team across the Moto2 and MotoE categories. The Spaniard, like Zannoni, will try to finish the season with a good result at a circuit where he finished fifth last year.
Jordi Torres: “It’s going to be a bittersweet weekend because it will be the last MotoE round. It will also be my last race week with the Power Electronics Aspar Team, so I’ll try to finish the last two races on a high note. The Portimao circuit is tricky, but fun at the same time. It’s not one of the tracks that has suited me particularly well, but I’ve always enjoyed it a lot and have been able to have some good races. It will be important to find a good balance for the bike because there are a lot of elevation changes, and it’s important that the electronics are as unobtrusive as possible. We’ll see if the front tyre we’ll be using in Portugal helps me ride more comfortably. We’ll demonstrate the full potential of both me and the team.”
Kevin Zannoni: “We're heading into the final race of the season, which will also be the last for MotoE. I'm sad that this chapter is ending, but for that very reason, I want to finish the year in the best possible way. I've worked really hard these past two months and even managed to participate in a race in the Italian championship, which has allowed me to arrive in Portugal better prepared. In the last races, we've had a good feeling, always fighting for the front positions. Our goal will be to be back there and finish as high up as possible. I want to thank the team for these two years, and I hope I can give them two podium finishes in our last Grand Prix together.”
