Quiles has no rival in Hungary

The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider has once again topped the Moto3 standings and secured his second pole position

Máximo Quiles had no rival in Hungary. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider took pole position at the Hungarian Grand Prix, beating his own track record and finishing 60 thousandths ahead of second-placed, Valentín Perrone, also a rookie. Similarly, Ángel Piqueras secured third place in the final moments, also just a few thousandths behind Quiles. Leader José Antonio Rueda finished three tenths behind in eighth position. On the other side of the pit, Dennis Foggia finished eleventh and will start the Moto3 race from the fourth row after a difficult qualifying session for the Italian rider.

Quiles is completing one of his best weekends in his first season in the world championship. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider once again led this morning's free practice and, despite suffering two crashes, improved his times and was the only one to lap in 1:45. His teammate Dennis Foggia also improved on his Friday times, and both riders prepared their race strategy before tackling Q2 this afternoon. In qualifying, Quiles took to the track determined to regain his confidence after the two crashes in the morning and get back to his best. The 17-year-old rider showed off all his talent, taking advantage of every inch of the Hungarian circuit to once again set the fastest time. With a time of 1:46.060, the rookie secured his second pole position in one of the closest qualifying sessions of the season in the smaller category. His teammate Dennis Foggia also secured a direct pass to Q2 on the previous day. The Italian rider has been one of the most competitive riders in Hungary, although in the afternoon he was unable to ride as smoothly due to traffic on the track. Foggia came close to improving on his morning time, and his 1:46.733 on the last lap put him in eleventh place. Despite starting a little behind, the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider has room for improvement and is confident of making a good start to fight at the front of the pack alongside his teammate.

1º Máximo Quiles 1:46.060: “I'm happy with the result, I was able to set good times and I really enjoyed myself on the bike, I can ride it just how I want to. I didn't push myself to the limit like I did in the morning, I'm saving something for the race. There are several strong riders, so we'll see how the race unfolds tomorrow, but we'll try to fight to be at the front once again. This morning's crashes were a riding error. I was very motivated, and it was a mistake of overconfidence and wanting more and more. Then, I didn't go out with the same confidence in the qualifying session, and it was a bit more difficult.”

11º Dennis Foggia 1:46.733 (+0.673): “It wasn't a good qualifying session: I found traffic on my last lap and I couldn't ride as well as I wanted, so I didn't get a great time. We know we have room for improvement. I'll have to get a good start, because the race will be very long and we'll have to manage the tyres well.”
