The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider was the fastest of the day, with his teammate Dennis Foggia in eighth position, meaning both riders have secured tomorrow’s Q2
Great start for the CFMOTO Gaviota ASPAR Team on Hungary's return to the World Championship. Máximo Quiles set the pace on Friday and became the benchmark for the weekend in the lightweight category. The Spaniard led Friday's standings, with the top three positions occupied by rookies. Valentín Perrone was second, almost three tenths behind Quiles, while Guido Pini was third. Dennis Foggia also secured direct entry into tomorrow's Q2 after finishing eighth.
The first day at Balaton Park was marked by strong gusts of wind, which made riding difficult, especially in Moto3. In the morning, the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team riders focused their work plan on getting to know the new track, characterised by heavy braking and constant changes of direction. Dennis Foggia achieved an outstanding second place, while Máximo Quiles was tenth. In the afternoon, both riders continued to work on adapting to the track, although on this occasion they also fought for a place in Q2. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team duo improved on their morning times, especially Quiles, who was two seconds faster than in the morning practice. The rookie was the fastest of the day and the only one to lap under 1:46.5. Similarly, his teammate Dennis Foggia also improved as the session progressed and closed the gap on the top of the standings. The Italian set his best time on the last lap, a 1:47.260, which put him in eighth position, also securing Q2 to fight alongside Quiles for the top positions on the starting grid.
1st Máximo Quiles 1:46.448: “It's a very tight circuit, with heavy braking points and a lot of changes of direction. I didn't feel good on the first run, but we've worked with the team to improve my adaptation to the track. In the afternoon, I felt much more comfortable; I went little by little, and in the end, I was able to be fast. I have a good pace, although I made several mistakes because it was very windy, which caused the front of the bike to move a lot. I wanted to go out and enjoy the track, and I really liked it. Tomorrow will be a long day; there's still a lot of work to do, and I have to keep perfecting my riding.”
8th Dennis Foggia 1:47.260 (+0.812): “The first day's results are positive. In the afternoon, we improved on this morning's time, and although I didn't manage a perfect lap, we're improving and going better and better. We need to study the data carefully to improve a couple of things on the lines. We're not far from the riders in front, but we have to keep fighting. The most positive thing is that we're going straight into Q2.”
