The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team riders have secured direct entry into Q2 in Japan. Máximo Quiles and Dennis Foggia worked hard to achieve their goal and finished the day eight tenths off the fastest time, in thirteenth and fourteenth place respectively. On this occasion, David Muñoz set the pace in Moto3, followed by leader José Antonio Rueda in second and local rider Ryusei Yamanaka in third.
The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team riders began the first day of practice at the Mobility Resort Motegi on Friday. Both took to the track focused on adapting as quickly as possible, especially Máximo Quiles, as it is his first time at the Japanese circuit. The Spanish rider finished the morning session in an impressive tenth position, ahead of his teammate Dennis Foggia, who was eighteenth. In the afternoon, both faced the first challenge of the weekend: securing a spot in Saturday's Q2. The Moto3 rookie did not have the best feeling at the start of the session, but Quiles focused on his riding and on improving lap after lap and lowering his times from the morning. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider rode alone and achieved his best time in the final stretch. Thanks to his 1:56.080, he secured direct passage to Q2 in thirteenth position. On the other hand, his teammate Dennis Foggia also faced a difficult practice session at Motegi. The Italian was able to improve his time by more than a second compared to this morning's session and pushed himself to the limit until the final seconds, when he set his best time, a 1:56.097, which put him in fourteenth place and allowed him to avoid Q1 tomorrow.
12+1 Máximo Quiles 1:56.080 (+0.846): “The start of the second practice session was a bit tricky because I didn't have the same feeling as in the morning. We changed a few things on the bike and I improved a lot. I wasn't able to do many clean laps and that annoyed me, but I was able to be fast riding alone. I'm motivated for tomorrow.”
14th Dennis Foggia 1:56.097 (+0.863): “The second practice session was very difficult, but the most important thing is that we achieved our goal and we are in Q2. I'm going to continue working with the team to improve some things. Tomorrow morning we will discuss the strategy for the race and the choice of tyres, although we will probably opt for the soft ones.”
