The CFMOTO Aspar Team Moto2 riders continue to fine-tune details in the final stretch of the pre-season
The Circuito de Jerez - Ángel Nieto hosts this week three days of official testing for the intermediate category to finalise details ahead of the first round of the World Championship, to be held next week in Thailand. The CFMOTO Aspar Team riders have concluded the first day of the test with Diogo Moreira, Aron Canet and Barry Baltus as the fastest riders. Dani Holgado and David Alonso have taken advantage of the good track conditions to complete a total of 115 laps between them.
Dani Holgado has made a solid start to the first session, occupying the top 10 of the timesheets after the initial laps. The CFMOTO Aspar Team rider has been very satisfied with his work on Tuesday, in which he has completed a total of 64 laps, setting his best time in the second session. Holgado has finished the day in thirteenth place in the combined times, less than a tenth of a second off the top ten and the second fastest rookie in the class. On the other hand, his teammate David Alonso also has had a good start to the test in Jerez. The reigning Moto3 World Champion continued with the work he did last week in Portugal, focusing on adapting to the Moto2 bike and improving his feeling. Alonso has also been less than a second off the pace in the first session, which has helped to boost his confidence in this new challenge. In the end, he has set the 24th fastest time and has completed a total of 51 laps.
12+1 Dani Holgado 1:41.658 (+0.883, 64 laps): ‘It's been a positive test and we are improving a lot. We still have to polish some details, obviously, but we were fast and that's important. I'm working a lot with the team to get to know each other well and fine-tune the set-up of the bike. It's a big change compared to the Moto3, but I think we've made a step forward compared to the Portugal test. There's still a long way to go, but we'll keep working to get there.’
24th David Alonso 1:42.136 (+1.361, 51 laps): ‘It's been a good start to the test in which we've gone from less to more and we've focused on following the same path as last week's test in Portimao. I'm very happy with how the shoulder is responding. We have done a great job of recovery and it has allowed us to arrive stronger at Jerez, which was the important thing. This year we are starting from the bottom in a new category, we have to have confidence in ourselves and progress little by little.’
