Jake Dixon, one of the fastest at the start in Sepang

The CFMOTO RCB Aspar Team rider has finished the first day of the Malaysian GP in fourth position, despite a heavy crash

CFMOTO RCB Aspar Team rider Jake Dixon has started among the fastest in the Malaysian GP. Despite the difficult track conditions in the morning session and a crash in the afternoon practice, Dixon has set the fourth best time of the day. The Malaysian GP has begun in mixed conditions. In the first practice session, the track has not been suitable for either dry or wet tyres, which has made the first few minutes of the session pretty difficult. In these conditions, Dixon has only done one lap before returning to the garage to wait for the track to improve. As the minutes have passed, the track has dried out and the Moto2 riders have been able to go out on dry tyres, although there were still patches of water on the asphalt. In these conditions, Dixon has been very competitive and has set the benchmark with a time of 2:06:255. In the afternoon, the temperature has risen, the sun was shining and there was no more water on the track. The CFMOTO RCB Aspar Team rider has topped the timesheets in the first minutes of the session thanks to the 2:06.040 he has set on his first attempt. However, the practice has ended early for him as he has crashed. As a result, Dixon has had to go to the medical centre and, although he has been declared fit by the doctors to return to the track, he has not gone out again. Despite this, only three riders have lowered his time and the British has finished the day in fourth position, just four tenths off the best time set by Manu González.

On the other side of the box, CFMOTO RCB Aspar Team rider Izan Guevara has finished the first day in Malaysia in seventeenth position. The Spanish rider has started the day with good feelings and in the first session he has ended with the tenth best time, seven tenths off his teammate. However, in the second practice session, Guevara has been unable to complete a good lap. The CFMOTO RCB Aspar Team rider has also felt comfortable in dry conditions, but he has not managed to set a time that allows him to be in the provisional Q2 positions. Tomorrow, Guevara's goal will be to progress in the last practice sessio to get straight into Q2.

4th Jake Dixon 2:06.040 (+0.464): “It has been a good day one. Unfortunately, I have crashed in the last session, but the feeling is good. It is the best I have felt in the last five races. First of all, I want to thank the team because they have been working hard to try to understand what they need to give me. Now it is time to restart, go to the physio and go again tomorrow.”

17th Izan Guevara 2:06.809 (+1.233): “Today I have had a lot of speed, but little luck. I have gone out to give my all, but with the red flag I have not been able to improve my time. It makes me angry that the results are not coming, because we are very fast. I am out of Q2, but we are going to work to see what we have to do tomorrow to be able to get through.”
