Alonso and Holgado were unable to finish the Spanish Grand Prix after crashing at different points in the race
The Circuito de Jerez - Ángel Nieto once again proved why it is one of the most eagerly awaited events on the calendar. With packed stands and high temperatures, the Moto2 riders offered a beautiful race that ended with the victory of Manu González, who comes back to the Moto2 lead. Barry Baltus and Senna Agius completed the podium in Jerez, finishing second and third. Aron Canet and Jake Dixon, who complete the leading trio in the intermediate class standings, finished eighth and ninth.
The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team riders, on the other hand, could not finish the first race in front of the home fans with a good taste in their mouths. David Alonso and Dani Holgado started the race from the third and fourth rows of the grid. Both riders faced this race with enthusiasm and willing to continue scoring points and consolidating all the progress made in their debut year in the intermediate category. After a good start, Alonso and Holgado reached the top 10 and tried to overtake more rivals. Before the end of the first lap, Dani Holgado, who was behind his teammate, was forced to go off the line to avoid a collision with Alonso, which caused him to crash and miss out on the race for the first time this season. Meanwhile, David Alonso faced a tough race, in which the riders were constantly fighting to overtake each other. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider was involved in an action with another rider in which both went to the ground, at the same point where his teammate had crashed.
David Alonso (crash): "I had a better start than the other times, not perfect, but better. There was a lot of mess in the first laps, but at least I was attacking and overtaking when I could. I tried to defend myself because the other riders were very aggressive. I tried to be aggressive as well to move up and suddenly the front closed. Izan Guevara braked very hard, and so did I, and we both crashed.”
Dani Holgado (crash): "It was a short race, but the important thing is that I'm okay. The front closed a bit and, trying not to hit my teammate, I went to the dirty area and I couldn't stop the bike. I'm disappointed I didn't do more laps, but the important thing is that I'm fine".
