The CFMOTO Inde Aspar rider, eighth in Thailand, kept up a great pace despite the tough conditions
The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team closed the opening round of the season with a brilliant debut for Dani Holgado, who finished eighth in his first Moto2 race. The high temperatures were once again the main factor on Sunday, with Manu Gonzalez taking the win, followed by Aron Canet and Senna Agius. Dani Holgado was once again the best rookie in the intermediate category and had a great race, coming from fifteenth position. The Spanish rider had a very consistent pace, he felt veery comfortable from the first moment, reaching the top 10 after the first few laps and staying in the front group. Holgado went from strength to strength, keeping calm and managing the tyres to make a final push in the last laps, finishing eighth in his debut in the intermediate category.
David Alonso faced a difficult race, in which the high temperatures tested the riders both physically and mentally. The reigning Moto3 champion moved up a few positions throughout the race and focused on finding a comfortable ride in his first race in Moto2. Alonso managed to improve his feeling in the final part of the race, when he took the opportunity to improve his pace and finish in twenty-first place.
8th Dani Holgado (+13.174): “I have no words to describe what happened today. I didn't expect it at all, started from fifteenth and everyone told me to be calm because it's difficult, especially the first few laps. I felt strong and confident and I went for it all. I overtook some riders and I tried to hold on as long as possible. I'm very happy, although I ended up exhausted. I learned a lot, but I was having a lot of fun. This result gives me the strength to keep going and not to give up until the end. I tried to reach the top 5 and I was hungry to get it, but there's still a long way to go and there's no need to despair. I thought about not falling and to keep the position. Thanks to the team, it's a real family and I'm very happy to be here.”
21st David Alonso (+24.642): “After Misano 2021, this was the second hardest race of my life. The most positive thing is that in the end, in the last five laps, I managed to understand something, to enjoy myself on the bike and finish with a different feeling. At the beginning I couldn't see how to follow the guys in front or how to overtake. I struggled a lot in terms of riding, but also mentally. The good thing is that I completed the race and could check how I felt after 22 laps. Now, the two or three things I absorbed in the last laps, I have to carry them over to the trainings at home and the next race in Argentina to grow and at least have a competitive race at the level I'm at right now.”
