JEREZ TEST

Alonso and Holgado just off the top 10 in Jerez

CFMOTO Aspar Team riders complete penultimate day of testing full of confidence

The CFMOTO Aspar Team is making the most of the final hours of pre-season and has racked up more than 120 laps today between the two intermediate category riders. David Alonso and Dani Holgado, reigning Moto3 champion and runner-up, have been close to the top 10 in the standings of the second day of testing at the Jerez – Ángel Nieto circuit, on a day in which Manu González has been fastest. The Spaniard has become the first Moto2 rider to go under 1:40 in Jerez, something that Aron Canet has also achieved later, finishing second. His teammate Barry Baltus completes the provisional podium today. The Moto2 riders still have three more sessions ahead of them tomorrow before flying to Thailand, where the season will start next Sunday, March 2.

David Alonso was the fastest representative of the CFMOTO Aspar Team today, although only by 35 thousandths over his teammate, Dani Holgado. The Colombian has cut almost a second and a half off his time from yesterday, which has also allowed him to close the gap to the fastest and leave it under a second. Alonso has added 63 laps in a day in which he has focused on seeking the limit, but without crashing, an objective that he has more than fulfilled and that has helped him to continue gathering information about his new bike. Teammate Holgado has maintained a similar gap with respect to the leader to the one he had yesterday and has finished 0.982 behind Manu González's time. The Spaniard has improved in all aspects, both in pace and in the time attack, but, above all, in confidence on the bike.

12th David Alonso 1:40.715 (+0.947, 63 laps): “It was a positive second day, we were looking for the limit without crashing, which was our idea: to learn to go at 90-95%, without falling, to do as many laps as possible on the bike. That helped us understand how the bike behaves and how to take advantage of the new tyres.”

12+1 Dani Holgado 1:40.750 (+0.982, 60 laps): “I’m very happy because my feeling has been better and my speed too. I was almost a second faster than yesterday and I improved in almost every aspect, both in terms of pace and the time attack, and in terms of confidence in the bike, which is the most important thing these days. Tomorrow will be tough after so many laps here, but we’re ready to have a great day.”
