The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team has three races left to finish the first half of the season at the top of the standings
This weekend’s Czech Grand Prix marks the start of the countdown to the eagerly awaited summer break, which the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team hopes to reach at the top of the Moto3 standings. Máximo Quiles, leader of the lightweight class, holds a 59-point lead at the top of the standings, ensuring he will head to Germany – the final race before the summer – as the leader. The rider from Murcia, who saw his lead cut for the first time this year after the Mugello race, managed to pull away from his rivals once again with his victory in Hungary.
This victory also marked the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team’s 49th win in Moto3 and the team’s 99th podium finish in the category. In the Czech Republic, both Quiles and Marco Morelli will be fighting to secure the team’s 50th victory and/or 100th podium finish. It was in Brno, in fact, that the Aspar Team secured its first Moto3 victory, with German rider Jonas Folger, fourteen years ago. It is also the only time the team has taken the top step of the podium in Moto3 at the Central European circuit, marking the team’s longest winless streak at a World Championship circuit. Since that day, Pecco Bagnaia, Albert Arenas, Sergio García, Izan Guevara, David Alonso and Máximo Quiles himself have won races for the Aspar Team.
Alberto Moncayo, Jorge Martín, Andrea Migno and Marco Morelli have also finished on the podium; Morelli came second in Brazil and inherited a podium finish at the Spanish Grand Prix following Adrián Fernández’s disqualification. The Argentine arrives at a circuit that will always hold a special place in his heart. It was there, on 20 July 2025, that he made his World Championship debut, finishing thirteenth and securing his first points. Now, almost a year later, he returns to Brno in third place in the World Championship standings, with 77 points, 34 behind second-placed Álvaro Carpe, and fully embroiled in a battle with four other riders separated by just six points: David Almansa in fourth; Brian Uriarte in fifth; and Veda Pratama in sixth.
Máximo Quiles: “I really like the Brno circuit and I can’t wait to get back on the throttle after this week’s break. I’m really happy to have won again in Hungary, but now I’m fully focused on the next race. I did well at this circuit last year, but I’m keeping my expectations low because it’ll be a new weekend. My aim is to take it step by step and carry on in the same way as before because it works very well for us: working on my own, finding a good set-up and being quick right from the first practice session.”
Marco Morelli: “We’re facing two races at two circuits that I really like. This weekend’s race will be special, because Brno is where I made my World Championship debut last year, and I’m keen to see what we can do there. We’re working well and both I and my technical team are on a good run. We’re coming off a weekend where we didn’t have a good pace, but I’m motivated to take that final step we need to reach the top.”
