David Alonso and Dani Holgado arrive in Austria determined to continue closing the gap on the top three in the Moto2 overall standings
The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team will wrap up its final European double-header this weekend before travelling to Asia. The Austrian Grand Prix comes after a weekend that brought both highs and lows for Alonso and Holgado. Whilst the Colombian staged a comeback, Holgado saw all his chances of securing a good result from the front row come to an end at the first corner, when he was caught up in a multiple crash. This weekend, both riders are keen to be in contention for the top positions once again and to build on the excellent work they have put in throughout the season.
Dani Holgado arrives at the Red Bull Ring keen to redeem himself after the Misano round, and he does so at a track that holds special significance for the Spaniard: it was there that he secured his first podium in the intermediate class last year, finishing in second place; furthermore, this year he will be competing in his 100th Grand Prix in the world championship there. Since that 2025 race, he has secured a further eight podium finishes, including three victories. The consistency of the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider has enabled him to remain at the top of the standings since the opening races, although following last Sunday’s crash, he has relinquished fifth place to his team-mate, David Alonso. Holgado is sixth with 137 points, two points behind the Colombian. In contrast, Alonso was unable to finish the race in Austria in 2025, but his progress this season means he arrives at this Grand Prix in top form. Alonso has managed to rediscover the best possible feel for his bike. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider is fifth, ten points behind the rider in fourth place, the Australian Senna Agius. The top three in the standings are just 18.5 points ahead of Alonso (and 20.5 points ahead of Holgado): third place is held by Iván Ortolá, who has 157.5 points; whilst Izan Guevara is second, 47.5 points behind the leader, Manu González.
Dani Holgado: “This weekend we have to keep working in the same way. I’m in great shape and last Sunday I could have been in contention for a podium finish. It was a shame not to finish the race, but now we have another chance to keep showing what we’re capable of. Last year I secured my first Moto2 podium here in Austria, so I think it could be a great weekend. We’ll give it our all to repeat that.”
David Alonso: “We’ve had hardly any rest this week following the Misano race. We’ve tried to recover as much as possible from my bicep injury, which, although I felt it a little at the start of the race, didn’t affect me too much or prevent me from scoring important points. In recent races I’ve managed to ride the bike smoothly, and in Austria we need to keep building on that foundation to prepare well for Sunday’s race.”
