Máximo Quiles and Marco Morelli head into the final race before the summer break ready to give it their all following their double podium finish at Assen.
The first half of the season is drawing to a close for the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team, and the German Grand Prix comes at the perfect time for the team. With Máximo Quiles leading the overall standings by 90 points and Marco Morelli hot on the heels of the top three, the double podium finish at Assen was a real morale boost for the rider duo, and also helped the team maintain the same points lead in the team standings. Without a doubt, the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team is in top form. Quiles has practically been on the podium in every race he has contested (he has only missed out on the podium once, in Italy). Six of these have resulted in victories, the most recent of which was at Assen – a race that also marked the fiftieth victory for Jorge Martínez “Aspar”’s team in Moto3. The Spaniard’s next challenge will be the Sachsenring circuit, where he finished second in 2025 and where, in 2026, he will aim, at the very least, to match the feat he achieved in his debut year in the category. His teammate Marco Morelli finally managed to make it onto the podium at Assen after a run of difficult races. The Argentine secured his third podium of the season after fighting his way up the field and giving it his all right up to the final corner. Morelli is, alongside Quiles, the only rider to have scored points at every round of the 2026 season. Morelli’s leap in form has been remarkable, and this weekend will be another opportunity to consolidate his progress and continue to close the gap in the overall standings. Once again, the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar rider will be facing uncharted territory in Moto3, having only raced at the Sachsenring last year during his time in the Rookies Cup, when he failed to score any points.
With Quiles leading since the second race of the season, his lead over the runner-up is growing ever wider, having scored 211 points out of a possible 250. In second place, with 121 points, is Álvaro Carpe, also from Murcia. The battle for third place is tighter than ever: David Almansa is third with 109 points, whilst Uriarte and Morelli, fourth and fifth respectively, are level on 102 points.
Máximo Quiles: “I’m feeling good about this weekend and we’re coming from Assen very motivated. It was a great race and this weekend we’re sticking to the same plan of working hard with the team, who are also doing a great job. I’m mentally prepared for the German Grand Prix; it’s a demanding, small and very enjoyable circuit. Then comes the summer break, so we want to put in a good performance to go on holiday feeling happy.”
Marco Morelli: “I’m heading to Germany feeling very motivated after the podium at Assen. It took a lot of effort to get there; it was a hard-fought battle and it felt like a dream come true after chasing it for so many races. We’ve improved the set-up, I feel much more comfortable on the bike and we’re growing as a team. I really like the Sachsenring circuit; it’s very similar in style to karting tracks. I’m looking forward to heading into the summer break with a result similar to, or even slightly better than, the one at Assen.”
