The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider will start the race from the front row of the grid for the fourth time this season
Máximo Quiles was once again in contention for pole position at the Brno circuit. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider was the fastest on track but was unable to complete the qualifying session and will start third. Quiles will once again start from the front row of the grid this Sunday after being one of the most consistent riders this weekend. David Almansa secured his third consecutive pole position, whilst Hakim Danish finished second. Marco Morelli failed to get through Q1 and will have to fight his way up from twentieth position tomorrow.
The Czech Grand Prix is proving very demanding for the Moto3 riders, mainly due to the high temperatures they have had to endure throughout the weekend. On Saturday, with track temperatures even higher than the previous day, Máximo Quiles finished the morning’s free practice in second place and prepared thoroughly for Sunday’s race. In Q2, the rider from Murcia broke the track record and held onto pole position until practically the end of the session. With a time of 2:04.490, the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider was leading until almost the end of the session, but he had to pull into the pits before he could complete the session, and watched as two other riders beat his time, relegating him to third place. Marco Morelli was also one of the standout riders this morning, finishing the free practice session in third place despite suffering a heavy crash yesterday. In the afternoon, the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider approached Q1 with the aim of finishing in the top four to be in contention for the front-row positions. Morelli briefly held second place, but on this occasion, he was unable to ride with the same fluidity as in the morning and, in the final minutes, dropped down to sixth place, meaning he will have to start tomorrow’s race from twentieth on the starting grid.
3rd Máximo Quiles 2:04.490: “It was a good qualifying session. I set my best time riding on my own, and that’s tough. The other riders had references and, on top of that, they were using the soft tire on both the front and rear, and I think that gives them an edge. I opted for a different tire that requires more effort on my part, but it’s working well for me and I really like it. Toward the end of the session, I noticed something strange with the bike, so I decided to play it safe and head into the pits. We checked it out, and it turned out to be nothing. The work I’m doing on the track and the work the team is doing off the track is going very well; we’re all very happy with the result. Tomorrow we’ll try to improve a little more. We’ve worked on trying to push hard from the start, but it doesn’t depend solely on me. Hopefully it’ll be a small group and the final laps will be fun.”
20th Marco Morelli 2:05.792: “It’s been a tough weekend in Brno. This morning I felt comfortable despite yesterday’s crash, and I had a good feeling. In Q1, I didn’t feel the same, and I wasn’t able to advance to Q2. Tomorrow we’ll have to work hard and try to move up the grid to keep scoring points in the standings.”
