The CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team rider has completed a tough race on his debut at the British circuit, finishing sixteenth. His team-mate Máximo Quiles has undergone surgery for the collarbone injury he suffered yesterday
Marco Morelli had a race full of ups and downs at Silverstone. The CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team rider was the team’s sole representative in the British Grand Prix, after Máximo Quiles was injured yesterday and declared unfit to race. The Argentine finished sixteenth and battled to secure some valuable points in the standings despite having to serve a penalty. David Almansa took the win – his second this year – following a fierce battle for the podium. Álvaro Carpe finished in second place, whilst Valentín Perrone came third.
The Moto3 race got underway at an unusual time and brought the British Grand Prix to a close. On this occasion, the CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team took to the track represented solely by Marco Morelli, who faced the daunting challenge of fighting his way up from thirteenth place to catch the leading group. The Argentine, however, struggled to feel comfortable on his bike on his debut at the Silverstone circuit and dropped as far as twentieth place. Morelli managed to recover and even moved into the points-scoring positions, despite having to complete a ‘long lap’ for exceeding track limits. On the final lap, he tried to secure his position, but ultimately crossed the finish line in sixteenth place, missing out on the points by just 80 thousandths.
Máximo Quiles has undergone surgery at the Ruber Internacional Hospital in Madrid for a fracture of his right collarbone. The procedure involved open reduction and fixation of the fracture using a plate and screws. The surgery went well, and the rider’s immediate postoperative recovery has been favorable. He will remain under the care of the medical team led by Dr. Ignacio Roger de Oña and Dr. Andrea García Villanueva, who will monitor his clinical progress during the postoperative period.
16th Marco Morelli (+35.419): “It’s been a difficult race, just like the rest of the weekend, because I’ve struggled to find my pace. Although in the first free practice session it looked as though we could be strong, as the weekend went on I couldn’t improve my lap times and I felt uncomfortable. In the race, I tried to get off to a good start, but I kept feeling the same way. I’m not quite sure what the problem was, but I struggled and today I had to grit my teeth and get on with it. There are difficult days, and that’s when you have to stay mentally strong. I’m sure that in the next race we’ll be able to turn things around.”
