The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider will start the British Grand Prix from seventh on the grid after showing great pace throughout the weekend
The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team has had mixed fortunes at Silverstone. Dani Holgado once again maintained a strong pace throughout the day and will start tomorrow’s race from seventh on the grid, whilst his team-mate David Alonso will start from nineteenth, having fallen just 44 thousandths short of progressing from Q1. Moto2 pole position went to Izan Guevara, who secured a three-tenths advantage over the second-placed, Alonso López. Iván Ortolá will complete the front row in third place.
Dani Holgado continued to work on his race pace this Saturday at Silverstone. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider remained among the frontrunners during free practice and approached the afternoon’s timed session keen to fight for a good spot on Sunday’s starting grid. In Q2, the Spaniard took to the track and needed just two laps to improve on his morning time, although he was unable to improve further in the subsequent laps. His time of 2:02.296 was enough to secure seventh place, just two tenths of a second off the front row. Holgado is feeling very confident ahead of a race that will be long and extremely demanding for riders in the intermediate class, where pace and set-up will be the two factors that make all the difference. Meanwhile, David Alonso has once again faced a difficult day at the British circuit. The Colombian continues to work on improving his riding feel and has been trying to find a good set-up ahead of this afternoon’s Q1. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider gave it his all in the session to secure a better starting position, but ultimately fell 44 thousandths short of the cut-off for the pole position battle and will start from nineteenth position tomorrow. Today marked the first time this season that David Alonso has failed to progress to Q2.
7th Dani Holgado 2:02.296 (+0.813): “We’ve finished Saturday, another day where we felt good, but we just couldn’t manage a fast lap. I did manage some quality laps, but we should have ironed out a few small details to be faster. Even so, I’m happy: we’ve made progress and set consistent times this morning. We’ve got a good set-up to fight in tomorrow’s race and keep enjoying ourselves.”
19th David Alonso 2:02.764: “We’ve been trying all weekend to sort out the problems, but it’s proving tricky because we can’t find the right direction. We’ve made it to the seventh row of the grid; tomorrow in the race we’ll try to do a bit better.”
