CFMOTO Azul Marino Aspar will start the German Grand Prix from the second and third rows of the grid
Dani Holgado and David Alonso continue to work hard with the team to get back into contention for the top positions. CFMOTO Azul Marino Aspar has put in an impressive qualifying performance in Germany, even challenging for a place on the front row of the grid. Dani Holgado came closest to achieving this and will start from fourth place tomorrow, whilst Alonso will start from eighth. The front row will be occupied by Iván Ortolá, who secured pole position, followed by Manu González in second and Izan Guevara in third.
CFMOTO Azul Marino Aspar continues to prepare for the race that will bring to a close a very satisfying first half of the season for Alonso and Holgado. The riders in the intermediate class have worked hard on their pace and race management for a race in which tyre degradation – particularly on the left-hand side – will be a key factor. Building on their work in the morning’s free practice session, where they finished second and fourth, the crucial moment came during the afternoon’s qualifying. The best times of the weekend were set in Q2 of the intermediate category, including those of Holgado and Alonso. The Spaniard remained in the top three until the final minutes, when he was overtaken by other riders and dropped to fourth place, albeit just 49 thousandths off third place. Meanwhile, his team-mate David Alonso also lapped under 1:22 and tried to close the gap on the front-runners. The Colombian set his best time in the opening laps, but rapid tyre wear affected the timing session, as the riders had very few opportunities to complete a perfect lap. Ultimately, his time of 1:21.878 placed him eighth, just one tenth of a second behind his team-mate’s time.
4th Dani Holgado 1:21.720 (+0.227): “I’m very happy because today, together with the team, we were able to improve our performance compared to yesterday and we were able to keep moving forward. I feel better and more competitive every time. Knowing that we have room for improvement, we still were able to finish in the top five: it’s very positive.”
8th David Alonso 1:21.878 (+0.385): “Today I managed to go faster, but the same as everyone else, so in the end we finished in eighth position. This morning we made a lot of progress compared to yesterday in terms of managing the used tyre, something that will be important to gradually work our way up to the front during the race. We still have work to do to see where else we can improve, but it’s not a bad starting position.”
