CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar heads to Indonesia with new goals

David Alonso and Dani Holgado will complete the first leg of the Asian tour this weekend, keen to continue climbing the Moto2 standings

CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar is going all out in Indonesia. At the last Grand Prix, held in Japan just a few days ago, both riders stood out for their consistency and solid performance. The Moto2 category is becoming increasingly competitive and there is less and less room for error – something that both David Alonso and Dani Holgado are well aware of. Indonesia will be a major challenge for them: the difficult conditions at the Mandalika circuit will make every session even more demanding. Last year’s event did not end in the best possible way for either Alonso or Holgado, as neither finished the race due to crashes at different stages of the event. This year they arrive having learnt their lesson, with much more experience in the category and ready to take another step forward this weekend.

David Alonso is already fourth in the overall standings and is now just fifteen and a half points behind third-placed Iván Ortolá. Dani Holgado, for his part, has climbed to fifth place, twelve points behind his team-mate. Whilst the battle for the bronze medal centres on these three riders, the fight for the world title is becoming increasingly exciting. Manu González suffered a technical problem on the starting grid and, as a result of this incident, failed to score any points as he had to start from the pit lane. Izan Guevara made the most of the opportunity and secured another victory, closing the gap on the leader significantly and moving to within just 10.5 points of González.

David Alonso: “We’ve arrived in Indonesia knowing that you can never let up if you want to stay at the front. It’s a completely different circuit to Japan, so we’ll have to adapt quickly. As we have so many good tyres, we’ll be able to ride fast right from the start if the track is in good condition. We need to make the most of that and be careful not to stray from the racing line. We’ll try to keep in mind that on Sunday we must always be pushing forward. It’s something we’re already doing, so we need to improve a little on Fridays and Saturdays.”

Dani Holgado: “I really like the Indonesian circuit and I enjoy riding there every time I go. The aim is to keep improving and strive for excellence. We need to see in which areas we can take a step forward to be more competitive. I’m really looking forward to continuing to enjoy myself and learn.”
