Alonso arrives at Assen in top form

The CFMOTO Azul Marino Aspar rider wants to continue his winning streak after his podium finish in Brno

David Alonso faces the Dutch Grand Prix with great enthusiasm after achieving his first podium of the season last Sunday. The Colombian’s performance was outstanding: in his first thirty races in the intermediate category, he had led a total of two laps, and in Brno, he managed to cross the finish line in first place for 17 of the 18 laps. Alonso led the race until the final corner, when he lost first position to Iván Ortolá. Despite having to settle for second place, he was able to overtake his teammate Dani Holgado in the standings and is now fifth with 91 points. This weekend, he faces a significant challenge at a circuit where, in 2025, he only managed to complete two laps before crashing out after having comeback ten positions. Now, Alonso is in his best form: he has rediscovered the winning form that made him shine at the end of his first year in the category, and also at the beginning of the current season.

On the other hand, Dani Holgado couldn’t finish the Czech Grand Prix in the same way he started it. The Spaniard didn’t have the same positive feeling during the race as he did at the beginning of the weekend and had to settle for seventh place despite starting from the front row of the grid. Holgado already finished in the top 10 last year in Assen, so one of his goals for this weekend will be to regain that consistency to fight for the top positions again. Despite losing fifth place in the Moto2 standings, Holgado is only six points behind his teammate. Manu González remains the championship leader after finishing fifth in Brno. Behind him, Izan Guevara lies in second place, 50.5 points off. The gap between the top riders in the standings remains very tight, with Celestino Vietti in third place and Senna Agius in fourth, just two points behind the Italian.

David Alonso: “We arrive in Assen with hardly any rest, but we’ll try to put ourselves in ‘challenge mode’ like in Brno and to find the secrets of the track from the first practice session. It’s a circuit where you have to really dance with the bike because there are very quick changes of direction. I want to keep pushing the limits in every session and give my 100% on every lap. We’ve managed to get everything working, and we’re finally seeing the results.”

Dani Holgado: “This weekend will allow us to continue working and gaining experience. My main objective remains the same; it will be very good for us to have back-to-back races to consolidate all the progress and, above all, to improve on the areas where we struggled the most in Brno.”
