Alonso and Holgado set to battle for a top-three finish in the final stretch of the season

The CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar riders are heading into their final races in the intermediate category, determined to fight for the team championship as well

Dani Holgado and David Alonso arrive in Qatar after enjoying their best weekend of the season. The one-two finish in Malaysia, with Alonso in first place and Holgado in second, was a real morale boost for the team, which had an outstanding weekend. With both riders in top form, they head into the final three races with significant challenges ahead. On the one hand, both riders still have a chance of fighting for a top-three spot in the overall standings. David Alonso, in fourth, is eight and a half points behind third place, currently held by Iván Ortolá; whilst Holgado is fifth, just one point behind the Colombian. Lusail will be the final stop before returning to European soil. It was precisely there that Dani Holgado began to make his mark in his first season in the intermediate class thanks to a fourth-place finish. Furthermore, the previous year he had finished second in his final season in Moto3. Similarly, Alonso also has fond memories of the Qatari circuit, where he secured a victory and a podium finish, both in the junior class.

Meanwhile, the teams’ championship is also still up for grabs. Jorge Martínez ‘Aspar’s’ team sits in second place with 381 points, 61.5 behind the leaders. Furthermore, if they maintain their lead over the team in third place this weekend (they are currently 90.5 points clear), they will be guaranteed, at the very least, the runners-up spot with the races in Portugal and Valencia still to come.

David Alonso: “The most important thing this weekend will be to focus on doing our job. The win in Malaysia has given us some extra motivation for this weekend. Above all, I want to enjoy my final races in Moto2.”

Dani Holgado: “I really like the Qatar circuit; it’s a very special track. I’m looking forward to enjoying one of my favourite circuits; it’s the only race held at night, which makes it special and very different. Last year was the first race where I was really able to fight for the leading positions, although I lacked a bit of experience. The main aim is to finish in the top three in the standings; we have some very strong rivals, but we’re going to give it our all to try and achieve that.”
