Poor visibility, which prevented the medical helicopter from taking off, has led to the cancellation of the last Moto2 race at Phillip Island
What was to be the final Moto2 Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island has been cancelled due to poor visibility caused by the weather conditions, which prevented the helicopter from taking off in the event of a medical emergency. The organisers had been repeatedly postponing the start time of track activity but, at a certain point, it became impossible to allow enough time for the Moto2 race to take place before nightfall. The CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar Team is now setting its sights on the next Grand Prix of the 2026 season, which will take place next week at the Sepang circuit (Malaysia).
Manuel González and Izan Guevara will arrive in Malaysia separated by 5.5 points, with just 100 points still up for grabs. As for the riders of the CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar Team, Dani Holgado is fourth in the overall standings, four points ahead of his team-mate, David Alonso. With four races to go, the CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar Team remains second in the team standings, on 336 points, 94.5 points behind the leaders, with 180 points still up for grabs.
Dani Holgado: “We finished on Sunday earlier than planned. It was a shame not to be able to take part in this race, the last one at Phillip Island. I would have liked to say goodbye to this legendary circuit by racing in front of the fans and putting on a good show. Safety comes first; if the championship has decided to cancel the race, we must also be grateful because they’ve looked out for us and that’s the priority.”
David Alonso: “It’s a shame not to be able to race today and say goodbye in this way to a circuit with such a rich history, but there’s nothing we can do about the weather. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the few years I’ve spent racing here. Today I had a good opportunity to gather more data in wet conditions, but I’m sure there’ll be other chances.”
