Australian Moto3 race cancelled

Poor visibility, which prevented the medical helicopter from taking off, has led to the cancellation of the last Moto3 race at Phillip Island

What was to be the final Moto3 Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island has been cancelled due to poor visibility caused by the weather conditions, which meant the helicopter could not take off in the event of a medical emergency. The organizers had been postponing the start time of track activity but, at a certain point, it became impossible to allow enough time for the Moto3 race to take place before nightfall. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team is now setting its sights on the next Grand Prix of the 2026 season, which will take place next week at the Sepang circuit (Malaysia).

Máximo Quiles was crowned Moto3 world champion in the race in Indonesia and no other rider can now overtake him in the standings. His team-mate Marco Morelli is sixth, on 140 points, eight points behind fifth place and 58 behind third. With four races remaining, the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team is edging ever closer to securing the Moto3 Teams’ World Championship. The team, led by Jorge Martínez “Aspar”, has 491 points – 104 more than the team in second place – with 180 points still up for grabs.

Máximo Quiles: “I’m a bit annoyed because we weren’t able to race at Phillip Island, and I think we had a good chance of achieving a strong result. These things happen; now we need to turn our attention to Malaysia.”

Marco Morelli: “It was a shame we couldn’t race in Australia. It was a very special weekend because it was the last time we were going to race at Phillip Island, and all of us riders were really looking forward to it. Now we need to focus on Malaysia; I’m really looking forward to getting there.”
