CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar bids farewell to Phillip Island

Dani Holgado and David Alonso will fight for a podium finish in the final race to be held at the Victorian circuit

This weekend, the motorcycle world championship bids farewell to an iconic, spectacular venue, one of the most beloved on the calendar. Phillip Island is a track where speed merges with the landscape and the roar of the bikes blends with the ocean wind. The world championship leaves behind a place that turns racing into a unique spectacle, a stage where the Aspar Team has celebrated six victories and three titles across the Moto3, 125cc, and 250cc classes. In the intermediate category, the team’s only triumph dates back to 2004 with Sebastián Porto. Dani Holgado and David Alonso will aim to end that winless streak during this special weekend at the Australian circuit.

Holgado arrives in Australia having reclaimed fourth place in the overall standings thanks to his podium finish in Indonesia. With his third-place result in Mandalika, the Spaniard leads his teammate, David Alonso, by four points. The Colombian reached the podium in the penultimate race ever held at Phillip Island—an event where he edged out the eventual Moto2 champion, Diogo Moreira, by mere thousandths of a second, while Holgado finished fourth. However, past results do not predict the future, and the current competitiveness of the category makes it impossible to single out a clear favourite in Australia. Izan Guevara enters this final phase of the season on a high note, having secured three consecutive victories in the last three Grands Prix and trailing the leader, Manu González, by just five and a half points. For these two, the championship battle begins in Australia.

David Alonso: “I’m incredibly grateful to be able to race in Australia after the nasty crash I had in Indonesia. All things considered, I’m doing well. I’m really looking forward to enjoying a fantastic circuit like Phillip Island, with its distinctive corners and high speeds. I want to enjoy this final year there and make the most of it, but above all, have a lot of fun. It’s a shame we won’t be coming back. I’ll aim to have a weekend focused on myself and the team, getting the best out of every session so I can give it my all in the race.”
