Máximo Quiles to miss the British GP race due to injury

Máximo Quiles will be unable to compete in the British Grand Prix after suffering a fracture to his right collarbone during qualifying. His team-mate Marco Morelli will start in thirteenth place

CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team rider Máximo Quiles will miss the Silverstone race due to a fracture to his right collarbone. Quiles suffered a heavy crash whilst battling for a front-row start, meaning he will not take part in the remainder of the Grand Prix. The Spanish rider will travel to Madrid today to undergo surgery on his collarbone tomorrow at the Hospital Ruber Internacional, so that he can begin his recovery process as soon as possible.

Local rider Scott Ogden has taken pole position, whilst Adrián Cruces and Valentín Perrone will complete the front row in second and third place respectively. Marco Morelli was unable to get close to the front-runners and will start tomorrow’s race from thirteenth on the grid.

The CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team has once again worked hard on the second day of the British Grand Prix. This morning’s free practice session was crucial for preparing for qualifying and, above all, for fine-tuning the bike’s set-up ahead of a race that promises to be challenging for all riders in the category. Máximo Quiles had shown good pace in the morning and set the second-fastest time, just 88 thousandths off the pace-setter. Marco Morelli, on the other hand, struggled somewhat to find the perfect set-up and did not feel comfortable on the bike, a situation that was repeated during the afternoon qualifying session. The Argentine improved on his morning time but failed to beat his personal best. As a result, his time of 2:10.581 placed him in thirteenth position, meaning he will have to start from the fifth row of the grid tomorrow.

14th Marco Morelli 2:10.581 (+1.455): “It’s been a bit of a tricky day; qualifying sessions are always difficult. We made a few changes this morning, but I couldn’t quite get comfortable on the bike. I struggled and wasn’t able to go out for a second run this afternoon, so I’m a bit disappointed with today’s work because I think we could have pushed a bit harder. Tomorrow we’ve got another chance; the race is what matters. I don’t want to set myself any big targets either, because we’ve been a bit short on speed all weekend. I’ll try to adapt quickly to get as far forward as possible.”
