The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider was the fastest on the first day of the British Grand Prix, whilst his team-mate David Alonso will have to go through Q1
Dani Holgado has been one of the most consistent riders since returning to action after a three-week summer break. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider worked on his own to significantly improve his lap times and finished Friday as the fastest rider in the intermediate class. Behind him, Senna Agius was second, 95 thousandths behind. Third place went to the Moto2 leader, Manu González, who was two tenths of a second behind Holgado. Alonso did not have the best of days at Silverstone and, having felt uncomfortable on the bike and finished twenty-second, he will be forced to go through Q1.
The Silverstone circuit proved a real challenge for the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team, who have returned to work with renewed energy and determined to continue giving their all in the second half of the season. Dani Holgado has been one of the standout riders since this morning, when he finished in fourth place. The Spaniard worked with the team to continue identifying areas for improvement in the afternoon. In that session, with Q2 in his sights, Holgado improved his times by more than a second in the final laps to top the timesheets with a time of 2:01.815, becoming one of only two riders to lap under 2:02. His team-mate David Alonso did not have such a positive start to the Grand Prix. The Colombian struggled to find the right feel for the bike but managed to improve his times in the afternoon session. However, his time of 2:03.136 was not enough to secure a place in tomorrow’s Q2, so he will have to compete in Q1 tomorrow. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider remains confident, despite today’s result, that he can turn the situation around and fight for a place at the front of the starting grid.
1st Dani Holgado 2:01.815: “I am very happy with how the ‘first day of school’ has gone and with the work of the entire team. Since the morning, I have felt very good, working on my pace, and in the afternoon, we were able to take a big step forward and I have reduced my time by more than a second by riding alone without difficulty. It is what makes me most happy, that I have been able to be consistent. I have made the difference with my riding style: I have worked a lot watching the telemetry and studying my rivals, seeing what they did differently, and I have applied it in the afternoon to improve my weak points. We have the race simulation ahead of us, to see where we are exactly, compared to our rivals.”
22nd David Alonso 2:03.136 (+1.321): “It has been a complicated, difficult day, because I have no feeling with the bike. It is difficult for me to turn the bike in the corners, the bike is not going where I put my eyes on, and we have to find a way to be more competitive tomorrow, because it is also difficult for me to exit the corners. The weekend is long; we have time to continue trying new things before qualifying. I want to be able to ride with normal sensations and then see what goals we can fight for.”
