Dani Holgado, third, and David Alonso, seventh, arrive in Jerez separated by a dozen points and with the top positions firmly in their sights
CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team riders Dani Holgado and David Alonso face the first European stop of the World Championship this weekend. The Jerez – Ángel Nieto Circuit will host the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend, the first of four home races for Holgado and Alonso. Both arrive with positive feelings from the first three races of the season and in strong positions in the overall standings, 6.5 and 15.5 points, respectively, behind the championship leader.
Holgado is third after losing the lead to Manu González following a race in the United States where a long lap penalty prevented him from fighting for points. Despite that DNF, the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider is just a hair's breadth behind the leader after his victory in Brazil. For the Spaniard, arriving in Jerez provides special motivation in a crucial season for his career. This weekend, at a circuit where the intermediate category riders already completed two days of testing in February, the competition will be even tighter than usual, so he is confident he can maintain his usual work rate to shine above the rest. His teammate David Alonso finished fifth in Brazil and fourth in the United States, closing out the season's start from seventh position in the standings. The Colombian is also aware that in a category like Moto2, where every tenth of a second counts, the two days of preseason testing will significantly reduce the gap between his rivals.
Dani Holgado: “The first home Grand Prix is underway, and we're really looking forward to it. It's a circuit I like, one we've all done a lot of laps on. It'll be very close, so it'll be interesting. I'm motivated; we're on a really good run, maturing in many aspects, and growing as a rider. We're going for it.”
David Alonso: “We've arrived in Europe after three races away, and we're starting in Jerez, a circuit where we've all put in a lot of kilometers. It's going to be very tight; every tenth of a second counts, and we'll have to be ready for that. We have to be consistent and keep applying what we've learned at the start of this season.”
