David Alonso finished in fourth place, just half a second off the podium, whilst his team-mate Dani Holgado crossed the finish line in fifth place

The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team concluded the Hungarian Grand Prix very pleased with Sunday’s results. David Alonso and Dani Holgado finished fourth and fifth respectively after both battled for fourth place at Balaton Park and made up several positions throughout the race. Manu González secured his third consecutive victory in the intermediate category, in a race in which Filip Salac finished second and Senna Agius third.

David Alonso and Dani Holgado started the intermediate category race focused on making a good start, which was essential if they were to challenge for the leading positions. Alonso, starting from ninth on the grid, and Holgado, from sixth, managed to climb several places in the opening laps. Holgado tried to maintain his pace despite the high temperatures, but by the halfway point of the race, the Spaniard was feeling the effects of tyre wear and had to adopt a more conservative strategy due to a lack of grip. Holgado was overtaken by his team-mate and finished in fifth place, a very satisfactory result for the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider, who has shown a marked improvement at the Hungarian circuit compared to last season. Meanwhile, David Alonso has made a significant leap in quality at Balaton Park. The Colombian went from strength to strength, focused on maintaining a good pace and making steady progress throughout the race. Alonso caught up with his team-mate and waited for the right moment to overtake him. With a faster pace than Holgado, he increased his speed and tried to catch the rider in third place in the final laps, crossing the finish line in fourth position, but just four tenths of a second behind third place. Following the Hungarian Grand Prix, Holgado and Alonso remain in fifth and sixth place in the standings, separated by five points. 

4th David Alonso (+4.367): “I’m pleased with today’s race; I had a good run. During the race I was able to observe how other riders were riding, particularly my team-mate Dani Holgado, who has a different style, and I learnt a lot from that. I focused on taking it step by step and seeing how far I could go depending on whether the race was faster or slower. I was patient when overtaking and maintained my pace in the middle section of the race, which is when I find it hardest. It was very hot and the rear tyre was sliding quite a bit, as was the front one a little.”

5th Dani Holgado (+9.561): “It was a good race and I’m happy with the work we’ve done. It wasn’t easy, especially the second half of the race. I struggled to get comfortable with the rear tyre; it had less grip and I lost speed. I tried to battle with my teammate for fourth place, but he had a better pace. What stands out for me is that this circuit was very difficult for me last year: I had no pace at all and couldn’t be competitive, but this year I have been. What makes me proud is seeing that we’re taking steps forward, even if they’re small. This week I’ll keep working on myself because, at the end of the day, the bike and I are one, and I have to do my bit too. I want to thank the whole team for the work they do; we’re more determined than ever.”
