The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider set the sixth-fastest time in Moto2 qualifying on the final lap

The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team riders battled right to the end in the intermediate class qualifying session. Dani Holgado will start from sixth on the grid after improving his times on the final lap. His teammate David Alonso also gave it his all right to the end, but a small mistake in the final corner prevented him from joining Holgado on the second row, and he will start the Moto2 race in ninth position. The front row was decided by thousandths, once again demonstrating the great parity among the riders in the intermediate category. Izan Guevara will lead the starting grid this Sunday, followed by Filip Salac and Senna Agius in second and third place respectively.

The second and final free practice session of the Hungarian Grand Prix allowed the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team riders to draw positive conclusions ahead of Sunday’s race. Both David Alonso and Dani Holgado improved on their times from Friday and finished among the top riders in the category, in second and fourth place respectively. The decisive moment of the day came in the afternoon, when both riders contested Q2 in search of a spot on the first two rows of the grid. Rising temperatures meant track grip was slightly reduced, so it wasn’t possible to keep improving the times. David Alonso remained in the top 10 for much of the session, but the Colombian wanted to push further and, on the final lap, increased his pace to try and reach fifth place. However, a small mistake in the final corner prevented him from achieving his goal, and his best time (1:40.557) placed him in ninth position. The session was also difficult for his team-mate Dani Holgado, who struggled with a lack of tyre grip. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider tried to put together a perfect lap to secure the highest possible position on the starting grid. On the final lap, with the session already over, Holgado gave it his all to improve his time and, thanks to his 1:40.470, he will start from sixth position tomorrow.

6th Dani Holgado 1:40.470 (+0.190): “We’ve made great strides forward today compared to yesterday; I was faster and much more consistent. This morning I did a race simulation and felt really good, especially in the second half of the session, so I feel ready for the race. The timed laps were a bit tricky because it was very hot and the tyre grip changed a bit, but I still managed some good times. I didn’t quite manage a perfect lap as it’s a very technical circuit where any mistake carries over into the following corners. The team is working very well; tomorrow we have a very long race ahead of us where overtaking will be tricky. We have a good starting position because we’ll be able to avoid the battles in the first few corners and set our own pace from the start.”

9th David Alonso 1:40.557 (+0.277): “It’s been a good day. We’ve worked a bit differently to improve the set-up and be a bit more competitive in the race. Conditions changed a lot in the afternoon and the track was very slippery during qualifying, but I managed to adapt well. I made a small mistake in the last corner, I went wide and the steering locked up, so I couldn’t push any further. Despite that, I’m happy. On this circuit the differences are minimal; I’m ninth, but only two tenths behind. Tomorrow I want to take it step by step and I’ll try not to lose my cool so I can make up as much ground as possible.”
