The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider set the eighth-fastest time on Friday, whilst his teammate Dani Holgado will have to go through Q1

David Alonso has returned to the Italian Grand Prix in top form and has secured direct entry to Q2, something he hasn’t achieved since the Spanish Grand Prix. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider has overcome his physical issues and has returned to working normally on a day in which he finished in eighth position. His team-mate Dani Holgado was fifteenth and missed out on a place in Q2 by just 51 thousandths. The top three in the Moto2 standings were once again decided by a tenth of a second, with Celestino Vietti in first place, Izan Guevara in second and Manu González in third.

As was the case with the riders in the junior category, the Moto2 free practice session was also held in wet conditions. Although the track dried out considerably in the final stages, not all riders opted to change tyres. In the afternoon, the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team riders took part in the day’s key practice session on a completely dry track and, although they were unable to ride as much as they would have liked in those conditions, they took to the track determined to give their best. David Alonso started the weekend having recovered from his niggles, something that was also reflected in his consistency. The Colombian went from strength to strength and closed the gap on the fastest riders to secure a place in Q2 this Saturday. With a time of 1:50.054, he set the eighth-fastest time and will avoid Q1 tomorrow, a session he had to take part in during the last two rounds. His team-mate Dani Holgado was not so fortunate. The Spaniard tried to tweak certain aspects of his riding to improve his feel on the track and improved his lap times lap by lap. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider remained in the top fourteen until the final minutes, when he dropped to fifteenth place with a time of 1:50.432, just 51 thousandths off the cut-off. With this result, he will have to go through Q1, although Holgado is confident of getting through it to join Alonso in the battle for the top positions on the starting grid.

8th David Alonso 1:50.054 (+0.634): “It’s been a very positive Friday. In the afternoon I was able to get into Q2, always riding on my own. I felt good from the start, but I was lacking a bit of speed, something I managed to achieve with the second tyre. I’m happy with the overall feeling; I want to continue ilike this and focus on further improvement. My shoulder feels great now; this circuit is very physical, but I haven’t felt any discomfort. Tomorrow it will be important to find a few tenths to be able to be at the front.”

15th Dani Holgado 1:50.432 (+1.012): “I haven't quite felt comfortable yet. I tried to change some aspects of my riding, but it didn't go as planned. I think we have a lot of room for improvement. We need to work hard this afternoon so we can make that leap in confidence and speed tomorrow. I'm very motivated and eager to keep improving and learning. This morning's session was a bit tricky due to the track conditions, but I made the most of it to improve in the wet. Then, in the afternoon, the session was completely different, with a dry track and conditions that are more similar to what I think we'll have during Sunday's race.”
