The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider overcame his physical discomfort in a tough race that ultimately turned into dry conditions

David Alonso finished fifth in a very short Moto2 race in France. The riders in the intermediate class completed just nine laps due to an early red flag. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider continues to feel better with his shoulder and was able to stay in the leading positions despite the difficult track conditions. Izan Guevara, winner at Le Mans, secured his first victory of the year, followed by Manu González and Iván Ortolá. Dani Holgado crossed the finish line in eleventh place after a tough race, but was disqualified for not having the front fender.

The riders in the intermediate class completed one of the shortest races in Moto2 memory. After the race was shortened to 14 laps due to the weather conditions, Dani Holgado and David Alonso started the race determined to stay in the leading spots. The Spaniard suffered a heavy crash on the first lap, but just when it seemed his race was over, a red flag gave him the chance to return to the garage. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team did a great job to get Holgado ready for the restart, and managed to do so just seconds before the pit lane exit closed. From this point onwards, with the race once again shortened to nine laps, Holgado had to contend not only with the difficult conditions but also with physical discomfort caused by the heavy impact. Holgado gave it his all to finish in eleventh place and secure some vital points, but he was disqualified for starting the race without the front fender. Meanwhile, his team-mate David Alonso ended Sunday on a high note after having to battle throughout the weekend with physical discomfort in his right shoulder. The Colombian benefited from the reduction in laps as he was able to push harder in the early laps without putting too much strain on his body. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider made up positions and even tried to catch the rider in fourth place, but due to the high risk of crashing, he opted to secure fifth place.

5th David Alonso (+5.165): “There was a lot of uncertainty right up until the last minute as to whether the race would be in the wet or dry. In the end, it was run in dry conditions, which was much better for my shoulder as there was less risk of a crash. We only did nine laps, which, come to think of it, meant I didn’t put as much strain on my shoulder, so I’ll be in better shape for the next race. I managed to get some very good things out of it, but I did notice that lack of pace. I tried to go for fourth place, but when I saw I couldn’t do it, I preferred to hold my position. We’re still picking up points and now it’s time to work to arrive in Barcelona in better shape.”

DSQ Dani Holgado: “It was a difficult race as I had a very heavy crash on the first lap and injured my left arm. I managed to start the second race, but it wasn’t easy because I struggled to ride through the left-hand corners. I gave it everything I had. Races are like that sometimes, and they aren’t always fair. After all the work we’d been putting in, we deserved a good result. These things happen, and we learn from these situations too. Now it’s time to wipe the slate clean and look ahead to the next race.”
